My (wife's) jeep and our adventures

Post by landroverhyter » Thu Jan 10, 2013 10:15 am

Been into 4wheeling since I was a kid. From big wheels, power wheels, bikes,go carts, atvs as a kid...then on to pick up trucks, land rovers, jeeps, Toyotas as I got older.
Some of the old rigs...

My wife and I got married in the fall of 2011 and we had our son Boone the following spring. With the addition of Boone the wife needed a new reliable daily driver. We looked at fj cruisers, jeep wranglers,100 series land cruisers, porsche cayennes, double cab Tacoma's, LR3s, and even some older Mercedes G wagons. Our requirements were:
4x4
Dependable
Enough room for at least 5
Enough room for our camping gear
Good after market support
Had to be "cool" no mini van for us!
No vehicle is perfect... They all have their advantages and dis advantages but we felt that the new jeep wrangler unlimited would fit the bill the best.
The day we took delivery from a dealer in SC.

Hyter, thanks for posting these up pictures. Good looking bunch of rigs. I really like that LC and TJ. We need to do some camping this spring!

My thoughts exactly!
My wife and I love the outdoors. Love to camp. We spent our honeymoon on a cross county trip to CA camping the 3 weeks.
Our fist camping trip with Boone was eventful. It rained the entire time and despite having a nice ground tent of corse we got soaked. Also I realized that the days of our 2 man tent and simple "throw everything in the truck and go" days were over... I had a ton of extra stuff we needed to take along with the baby.

Thanks! Would love to camp with you guys sometime! you have two girls? how old are they? Speaking of camping...
After our first over nighter with Boone I was on the hunt for a trailer for all our junk and roof top tent to keep us off the ground and dry. After searching and researching different set ups I wasn't sure if a roof top tent was right for us...
And man o man are they expensive! So after a ton more of research and searching I found this in Indy on Craigslist.

Perfect. Owned by a older couple who had big plans but unfortunately the trailer spent most of its life in their garage.

I really miss the cruiser... It was an awesome truck. The Tj was a lot of fun around the farm and to drive in the summer topless and doorless. But hey ya can't keep em all... Doubled my money on both to help fun this build.

Really had a great weekend we really enjoyed the FD ride. My wife and I both love to get out camp, wheel, and meet new people that have the same interest as we do.

Good looking rigs! I love my FJ80. I was actually looking for a Jeep when I ran upon it and couldn't pass it up. I'm really happy with it. Liked it so much I picked up another Toyota. This is my daily driver....

If I didn't need a full size truck for a DD I would be in a 2001-2004 double can just like yours but white!
Those are awesome trucks and I prefer the size and body style of those vs the new ones.

The weekend after the FD ride we were back in Slade to camp and relax.. No real off roading but we did camp next to the creek in the sandlot. I also added a storage rack to the trailer.

We met a couple people from the cincinatti jeep crew and ended up meeting up with a group of them in Harlan. It was our first time there and we really liked it. It was nice having a map of the place and all the trails were marked and rated. We didn't do any of the hard stuff but we had a blast and this gave my wife a chance to do some driving without having to worry too much.
